Born on July 22, 1947 in Kolyadichi, Belarus.

He is a member of the Church and Public Council for the Development of Russian Church Singing (2017).

Since 1973 he has been working at the Department of Music Theory, since 1986 – as an assistant professor, since 2017 – as a professor.

He developed special courses: “Polyphony”, “Early polyphony”, “Methodology of musicological research” for the students of the specialty “Art criticism (musicology)”, “Methodology of modern musicology” for master’s degree students, “Melodic singing” for the students of the Minsk Theological School, a course of lectures on polyphony I. Bach for students of the Faculty of Advanced training and retraining of Belarusian State Academy of Music.

He led the Student Scientific and Creative Society of the Belarusian State Conservatory (1980-1985). In 1986-1995 he headed the department of music theory. He is a member of the Council of the Piano and Composer-Musicology Faculty (1995-2016). He is initiator and one of the organizers of the Singing Academies in Gomel (1995-1997).

Research interests are focused in the field of polyphony and early polyphony, a discipline that was first formulated in Belarusian musicology. In this regard , a doctrine of the typology of polyphony was developed based on the extensive historical and theoretical material, including samples of music by modern Belarusian composers. Also in line with scientific interests there are questions of the connection between music and mathematics, the problem of transcription, systematics of notations, musical poetics etc.

He acted as scientific supervisor for the development and implementation of scientific assignments withtin the framework of the Thematic plan of scientific research and development aimed at scientific and technical support for the activities of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus: scientific assignment – the creation of a scientific monographic publication “Polyphony in Belarusian music of the XX – early XXI century”.

He is a member of the editorial boards of the scientific publishing center “Sociosphere, the magazine “South Russian Musical Almanac” and the magazine “Vesti” (BSAM).

Since 2018 he has been the Chairman of the Scientific methodological council for the Art of Music and is a member of the Presidium of the Council of the Educational and Methodological Association for Education in the Field of Culture and the Arts. From 2019 – till now he is Chairman of the Council for the Defense of Doctoral (Candidate’s) Dissertations D 09.01.01, specialty 17.00.02 “Musical Art”.

Was awarded certificates and diplomas from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, and the Minsk Diocesan Administration of the Belarusian Orthodox Church.

Through religious organizations, he took part in the work of the Church and Public Council under the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ for the development of Russian church singing (Moscow). He was awarded the medal of Belarusian Orthodox Church of St.Cyril of Turov (2019)..
