Initiative topics of the Departments

An important direction of scientific work at the Academy is ensuring the scientific activities of the departments, the implementation of initiative topics in the second half of the workload of the teaching staff of the departments. The result of scientific activities is the publication of scientific articles, the compilation and scientific editing of collections of scientific papers, as well as the writing of monographs, work on musical publications, speeches at scientific conferences, etc.

In 2018, 4 Department initiative topics were registered in the Belarusian Institute of System Analysis:

  1. “Ontological foundations of musical art in the context of the problems of modern Belarusian theoretical musicology” (Music Theory Department, Supervisor – Candidate of Art Criticism, Associate Professor T.Titova, 2018-2020, State Registration No. 20181482).

As a result of the research, a generalization of the achievements of the Belarusian musicological science has been carried out, the main directions of current research in the field of music theory have been identified, characterized, associated with global artistic processes; the methodological foundations of musicological analysis have been updated, which determine the unity of the ontological basis of the trends in the development of academic musical art in Belarus and the world, the modern paradigm of fundamental concepts and terms of music theory has been clarified (“genre”, “style”, “composition”, “thematic invention”, etc.) that fit national art into the context of world art on a single methodological platform; the latest works by Belarusian composers, characterized from the standpoint of semantics and poetics of modern composer’s work have been included in the scientific context of modern theory; the main compositional techniques relevant for the beginning of the 21st century have been studied; methodically expedient ways of improving and increasing the efficiency of musical and pedagogical activities have been outlined (on the example of the development and rooting of the course unit “Choral solfeggio”), which offers one of the ways to use the results of scientific research not only in cognitive, but also in sensory-acoustical and musical-performing (creative)) activities.

  1. “Professional training of performing musicians in higher music school: theory and practice” (Department of Music Pedagogy, History and Theory of Performing Arts, Supervisor – Doctor of Education, Professor V.Yakonyuk, 2018-2020, State Registration No. 20181480);

The research results are recorded in: 20 training programs; 77 scientific articles; 5 PhD theses; 24 Master’s theses; 130 scientific reports at conferences. Among the publications made in the course of work on the initiative topic:

As a result of the research, scientific articles were published, speeches were made at conferences, collections of articles were prepared:

  1. “Musical culture of Belarus and the world musical process: on the way to national self-identification” (Music History and Musical Belarusistics Department, Supervisor – Candidate of Art Criticism, Associate Professor O.Oleinikova, 2018-2022, State Registration No. 20181481).

Most of the materials enrich the content of academic course units read at the Education Institution “Belarusian State Academy of Music” (“Belarusian Music History”, “Music History of Eurasian Countries”, “Foreign Music History”, “Musical Folklore”, “Belarusian Liturgical Music History”, “Musical Textology”, etc.), are used in the activities of the Professional Development and Staff Retraining Faculty of the Academy. The most significant results are summarized in the collection of scientific articles of the Department:

Currently, the Academy is working on the following initiative topics of the Departments:

  1. “Actual directions for improving the methods of teaching music-theoretical course units at the Higher Education Institution” (Music Theory Department, Supervisor – Candidate of Art Criticism, Associate Professor M.Porokhovnichenko, 2022-2026, State Registration No. 20221626).

The purpose of the assignment is to review and systematize the current trends in improving the modern methods of teaching music-theoretical course units at the level of Higher education.

  1. “Practice-oriented directivity of the content of historical (musical performance) and psychological course units of the 1st and 2nd levels of Higher music education. Theory. Methodology. Methods” (Department of Music Pedagogy, History and Performing Arts Theory, Supervisor – Candidate of Art Criticism, Associate Professor I.Onoshko, 2022-2026, State Registration No. 20221629).

The purpose of the research is the scientific substantiation and systematization of the practice-oriented directivity of the content of historical (musical performance) and psychological and pedagogical course units of the 1st and 2nd stages of Higher music education.

  1. “Value orientations of a creative personality in the spiritual, moral, social and cultural space” (Social and Humanitarian Course Units Department, Supervisor – Associate Professor N.Sazanovich, 2022-2026, State Registration No. 20221631).

The purpose of the work is analyzing the system of a creative person’s  value orientations in the spiritual, moral, social and cultural space of the Belarusian society in the 21st century, determining the value of music in the relationship of the ontological status and the axiological approach to the forms of its comprehension, the content of a musical work from the point of view of moral and aesthetic categories; a holistic, conceptual consideration of the relationship between the processes taking place in the contemporary musical art of Belarus, identifying the specifics and purpose of musical art in society and in the system of specific art typology.

  1. “Traditions of the Belarusian bayan-accordion school in the modern music education system: performing and pedagogical aspects” (Bayan and Accordion Department, Supervisor – Associate Professor A.Shuvalov, 2022-2026, State Registration No. 20221630).

The purpose of the assignment is identifing and systematizing the pedagogical and performing traditions of the bayan (accordion) school in the context of modern professional education.

  1. “Performing interpretation of music of the XX-XXI centuries for wind and percussion instruments in the context of the problems of contemporary performing art: theory, practice, methods” (Brass and Percussion Instruments Department, Supervisor – Professor L.Klindukhova, 2022-2026, State Registration No. 20221628).

The purpose of the assignment is studying  the issues of performing interpretation of modern music for wind instruments in the context of teaching a special course in music education institutions.

  1. “Forms of representation and concert practice of modern choral performing art in the context of scientific and methodical support of the educational process at specialized education institutions and vocational secondary education institutions” (Choral Conducting Department, Supervisor – Candidate of Art Criticism, Associate Professor S.Gerasimovich, 2022-2026, State Registration No. 20221627).

The purpose of the research is reviewing and systematizing the current trends and forms of concert and performing activities in the field of academic choral performing art.
