Composition Division

The absolute majority of the members of the Union of Composers of Belarus are the graduates of the Composition Division of the Belarusian State Academy of Music. For more than a quarter of a century the Division was headed by one of the oldest teachers of the Academy, People’s Artist of Belarus, Professor A. Bogatyryov. Among his pupils is a number of famous Belarusian composers, including People’s Artists of the USSR and Belarus E. Glebov, I. Louchenok, People’s Artists of Belarus V. Olovnikov, G. Vagner, V. Boudnik, L. Zakhlevny, S. Kortes, D. Smolsky. Under traditions of the St. Petersburg school, the composition art was taught by the People’s Artist of Belarus, Professor N. Aladov, in whose class the Conservatoire was finished by R. Boutvilovsky, F. Pytalyov, and also A. Sonin and L. Shleg. Assistant Professor P. Podkovyrov, Honoured Worker of Arts of Belarus, who brought up V. Domoratsky, A. Zalyotny, V. Ivanov, M. Karetnikov, L. Mourashkov, V. Pomozov, has remained an original and fruitful teacher of composition in the memory of his pupils. In the 1970s Professor E. Glebov started his active pedagogy activities, among whose students are V. Kondrousevich, V. Prokhorov, and in junior teacher’s courses – V. Domoratsky, A. Zalyotnev, L. Zakhlevny, V. Pomozov. The academician for many years was taught by the People’s Artists of the Belarus, Assistant Professor S. Kortes, People’s Artists of the Belarus, Professor A. Mdivani.

From 1997 to April 2013 the head of the department was Honoured Worker of Arts of Belarus, Assistant Professor V. Dorokhin. Currently, the head of the department is Honored Worker of Arts, Professor G. Gorelova. Among the teachers of the Division are well-known Belarusian composers: Honoured Workers of Arts of the Republic of Belarus, Professors V. Dorokhin and V. Voitsik, Professor V. Kouznetsov, Assistant Professors V. Koroltchouk, A. Khodosko.
