Born on September 4, 1940 (Republic of Belarus, Minsk).

Laureate of the All-Belarusian Piano Competition (1959). Diploma winner of the Inter-Republican Piano Competition (1961). In 1962-1963 – soloist of the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society.

From 1962 to the present, he has been teaching at the Belarusian State Academy of Music. Associate Professor since 1977, Head of the Special Piano Department (1985-1987), Professor since 1989.

From 1981 to 1992 he headed the Piano, Composition and Musicology Faculty, was the Chairman of the Academic Council of the Faculty.

Professional experience of L.P.Yushkevich is 60 years. He has given solo concerts in Belarus, Russia, China, the Czech Republic, Germany, Finland, Lithuania, and Latvia. Leonid Yushkevich has stock recordings on the Belarusian radio and television. Conducted master classes in Belarus, China, the Czech Republic. Jury member of International, All-Union and Republican competitions of performers. He was awarded the honorary badge “For excellent work” of the USSR Ministry of Culture, the Citation of the Supreme Council of the BSSR.

Among L.P.Yushkevich’s pupils there are over 200 students and masters. Among them, Laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus V.Kondrusevich, soloist of the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society, PhD, Associate Professor of the Belarusian State Academy of Music N.Gromova, Associate Professor of the Belarusian State Academy of Music, PhD V.Sakharova, PhD I.Gorbushina.

Laureates of International and Republican competitions: E.Nekrasova, A.Voronovich, L.Raikhlin, Gao Danfeng, N.Gromova, S.Turgel, Xu Hong.

L.P.Yushkevich does a lot of work to strengthen cultural ties with conservatories and universities of the People’s Republic of China (Wuhan, Fuzhou). For success in work Professor L.P.Yushkevich was awarded the honorary badge “For excellent work” of the USSR Ministry of Culture, the Citation of the Supreme Council of the BSSR.

He has a number of publications.

Publications: Piano works by G.Wagner in the educational and pedagogical repertoire of music colleges and children’s music schools. Minsk, 1980; Improving the training of graduates of music colleges for admission to the Belarusian State Conservatory. Minsk, 1981; Article in the magazine “Literature and Art”.
