IRINA KALENCHITS

Position: Associate Professor of the Bayan and Accordion Department

Born on April 28, 1983 in Minsk, Republic of Belarus.
Since 2009 – teacher at the Bayan and Accordion Department of the Belarusian State Academy of Music (part-time; since 2010 – at the main job).

Since October 2019, she has been the artistic director and conductor of the Bayan and Accordion Orchestra of the Belarusian State Academy of Music. In 2021, the Orchestra became the winner of two international competitions in online format (“Concord of Saunds 2021”, Jaunmarupe, Latvia; “AccoPremium 2021”, Rechitsa, Belarus).

Laureate of international competitions for bayan and accordion players (Russia, St. Petersburg, 2001; Poland, Sanok, 2002; Poland, Czestochowa, 2005; Ukraine, Krivoy Rog, 2006; Italy, Morro d’ Oro, 2006 (in 2 nominations); as part of the duet “Expression”: Estonia, Pärnu, 2006, 2007; Poland, Czestochowa, 2007; Poland, Sanok, 2008 (in 2 nominations); Poland, Przemysl, 2009; Italy, Castelfidardo, 2011), as well as a participant and laureate of numerous international festivals. As part of the duet “Expression” (since 2005), she actively toured in Belarus, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine.

Scholarship holder (2002, 2006) of the Special Fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for Support of the Talented Youth, winner of the F.Skaryna scholarship (2006). Since September 2017, she has been the artistic director of the Russian folk instruments ensemble of teachers of the State Education Institution “Children’s Musical Art School No. 10 named after E.A.Glebov in Minsk”. Since September 2018 – soloist of the M-Klezmer band ensemble.

In 2021, she completed an internship at the St.Petersburg State Conservatory named after N.A.Rimsky-Korsakov.
Member of the Belarusian Union of Musical Workers (2009).

Provides methodological assistance to teachers of Children’s Musical Art School, secondary specialized education institutions of the Republic of Belarus. Conducts classes at the Professional Development and Staff Retraining Faculty of the Belarusian State Academy of Music.

Among her students are laureates of international competitions in duets: N.Litvinchik and A.Kozhukh, E.Shevchik and E.Sorokin.
Author of a number of transcriptions for bayan solo and various ensembles, instrumentation for bayan and accordion orchestra, performing editions of musical works.
