The Department was established in October 2001 (Order of September 24, 2001 No. 48-3).

The priority areas of the Department ‘s activity are:

preservation and dissemination of samples of foreign and national musical art as part of the world musical culture, attracting a wide audience;
assistance in improving the professional training and performing practice of highly qualified musicians;
multilevel organization, coordination and control of concerts, productions, special creative projects and other events;
advising on the organization and holding of events.

Among the tasks of the department are:

creating conditions to ensure the personal, intellectual, cultural and professional levels of students, as well as optimal conditions for the development of their creativity and initiative;
participation in the provision of advertising and information activities in the preparation and conduct of concerts and special creative projects of the Academy;
providing systematic methodological assistance to employees and students in the preparation of concert programs;
keeping records of educational and concert activities of the Academy;
providing effective and cultural services to the visitors, creating comfortable conditions for them during concerts and special creative projects held in the Academy’s concert halls.

The implementation of this work is based on the normative documents of the Republic of Belarus, which note the important role of musical art in the ideological and cultural upbringing and education.

The Department ensures the operation of music halls that function as training stages and concert venues. Among them is the Great Hall (academic building No. 1, Internatsionalnaya str., 30, auditorium No. 229), designed for the brightest and most large-scale events of the Academy. The highlight of the Great Hall is rightfully a collector’s concert grand piano of the company “Steinway & Sons”, acquired by the Academy in 2017 – the jubilee year – thanks to a grant from the special fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for the support of talented youth. In addition, concert and creative events are held in the Small Hall (academic building No. 2, Kommunisticheskaya str., 9 / Chicherina str., 5, auditorium 111), in the Victor Rovdo Hall (academic building No. 1, Internatsionalnaya str., 30, auditorium 410) and the Music Hall (academic building No. 2, Kommunisticheskaya str., 9 / Chicherina str., 5, auditorium 401).

The department’s work contributes to concerts and creative projects with the participation of permanent creative student collectives: symphony and chamber orchestras, the wind instrument orchestra, the choir, Russian and Belarusian folk instruments orchestras, instrumental ensembles, etc. The range of concert programs is diverse and includes works of foreign, Russian and Belarusian musical classics. Works by contemporary, in particular, Belarusian composers, many of which are performed for the first time, are also an integral part of the Academy’s programs.

Among the events organized and conducted by the department are solo concerts, concerts of the academic staff of the Academy, recitals, concerts of piano, vocal, instrumental and choral music, evenings dedicated to anniversaries associated with important names for the world and Belarusian culture, memorial evenings, class concerts, chamber music concerts, reports of departments, concerts of departments of music colleges, master’s students, international students and students of the preparatory department, concerts dedicated to state and professional holidays, charity concerts and creative projects, thematic cycles of concerts, productions of the Academy’s opera studio, performances of soloists and music collectives at third-party venues, concert programs within the framework of international competitions and festivals as well as international and Republic-wide scientific and practical conferences, creative projects carried out with the support of the special fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for the support of talented youth.
