HISTORY OF THE SINGING DEPARTMENT

From the first days of work of Belarusian State Conservatory (now – Belarusian State Academy of Music) the Singing Department took one of the leading places among performing departments. It was gained by singing culture of Belarusian peoples as well as high professional level of famous singers of the previous century. Those who stood at the roots of higher vocal education in Belarus and was the partner of F.Shaliapin, A.Nezhdanova and L.Sobinov: those are A.Bonachich, P.Tikhonov, E.Vitting. They brought up first Belarusian People’s Artists L.Aleksandrovskaya, N.Vorvulev, M.Denisov, S.Druker, I.Bolotin etc. Their business was continued by such outstanding singers as Professor S.Oskolkov, People’s Artist of USSR Professor T.Nizhnikova, People’s Artist of BSSR, Professor A.Generalov, People’s Artist of BSSR, Professor L.Galushkina, Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus, PhD in Art History, Professor L.Ivashkov, People’s Artist of BSSR, Associate Professor L.Maksimova, Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus, senior teacher N.Gubskaya, Honored Artist of Buriatia, senior teacher Zh.Gabba, senior teacher N.Pavlova, senior teacher V.Rogovich.

Today traditions of Belarusian singing school are developed by famous singers and teachers: Honored Artist of BSSR, Professor L.Kolos, People’s Artist of the Republic of Belarus, Professor P.Ridiger, Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus, Associate Professor M.Zdanevich, Associate Professor L.Scherbakova, Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus and of Ukraine, Associate Professor M.Zhiliuk, Honored Artist of RSFSR, Associate Professor N.Moiseenko, Associate Professor V.Klindukhov, People’s Artist of the Republic of Belarus, Associate Professor N.Rudneva, Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus, Associate Professor E.Shvedova, senior teacher D.Trukhan-Bogdanova as well as young specialists, alumni of Postgraduate School, teachers S.Belaya, I.Loi. At the present time the Head of the Department is T.Tsybulskaya.

Famous singers of the republic teach at the department: People’s Artist of the Republic of Belarus, Professor A.Moskvina, People’s Artist of the Republic of Belarus, Associate Professor N.Sharubina, People’s Artist of Belarus, Associate Professor S.Frankovsky, Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus, Associate Professor T.Tretiak, Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus, senior teacher E.Bundeleva, soloist of Belarusian State Academic Musical Theatre, owner of F.Skoryna medal, senior teacher L.Kuzmitskaya. Being laureates in different international and national competitions and having experience of performing on big opera stages and prestigious concert halls, they bring up the new generation of vocal art masters. Pedagogic team of the Department is usually joined by high-level specialists. The Head of the cycle commission “Singing”, Associate Professor O.Kosareva, Graduate School alumni, senior teacher N.Ramanchuk, Graduate School alumni, teacher I.Skvarko teach at the Department.

The Singing Department is proud of its laureates of international competitions: V.Kuchinsky, M.Zdanevich, L.Kolos. V.Skorobogatov, M.Zhuliuk, M.Grigorchik, M.Rysov, I.Shupenich, I.Gordey, S.Frankovsky, O.Kovalevsky, E.Salo, A.Morozov, V.Moroz, A.Moskvina, T.Gavrilova, L.Lazarchik, N.Aleksandrovich, Yu.Gorodetsky, I.Silchukov, O.Volkova, D.Trukhan-Bogdanova, P.Eliseeva, L.Karpuk, M.Danusevich, P.Petrov, M.Shabunia, A.Sivko etc.

For the last year in the Academy of Music on the base of the Singing Department were organized master-classes with famous musicians including D.Nenov (Bulgaria), D.Vdovin (Russia), O.Aite (France), D.Khvorostovsky (Russia), C.Manzoni (Italy), M.Bach (Germany), Z.Krigere (Latvia), E.Starodubskaya (Russia) etc.

Teachers and students conduct active concert activity at different Belarusian stages and abroad. Thanks to young talents Belarusian vocal school leads the way of integration into European and world culture space, setting the high status of the country. Voices of young singers, graduates of Belarusian State Academy of Music can be heard on famous world stages in Metropolitan-opera in the United States of America, Royal Theatre Covent-Garden in the Great Britain, La Scala in Italy and other leading European and world theatre stages.
