The activities of the Choral Conducting Department and the Singing Department of the Belarusian State Conservatory began in the first years of the work of the Conservatory. In the post-war period, they were part of the Performing (Folk Vocal Studies and Choral Conducting) Faculty, along with the Folk Instruments Department, which from 1978 to 1987 was headed by Associate Professor B.Sinetsky.
The basis for the creation of the Vocal Studies and Choral Conducting Faculty was the previous fruitful work of the teaching staff and Heads of the Singing and Choral Conducting Departments. The work of the Faculty creative teams was distinguished by active performing activity: the Student Choir and the Opera Studio, which during its functioning staged performances of almost the entire classical opera repertoire. The Faculty Departments were headed by outstanding figures of the Belarusian musical art and education: People’s Artist of the USSR, Professor T.N.Nizhnikova (singing), People’s Artist of the USSR, Professor V.V.Rovdo (choral conducting). The first Dean of the Vocal Studies and Choral Conducting Faculty, established in 1987, was Valery Avramenko, Associate Professor, owner of the Francysk Skaryna Medal, who headed the Faculty until 2013.
From 2013 to 2022, the Dean of the Faculty was Yuri Karaev. Since 2022, the Dean of the Faculty is Vladislav Bartkevich.
Choir conductors, vocal artists, teachers, choir artists, choreographers, ballet masters and musical theater directors receive education at the Faculty.
