Honorary Professor of Belarusian State Academy of Music
Ukrainian choral conductor, scientist, music and public figure, teacher. People’s Artist of Ukraine (2008). Doctor of Art History (1997). Professor (1998). Academician of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine (2017). Rector of the P.Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine (2004–2018). Member of the National All-Ukrainian Music Union.
Born on August 25, 1946 in the village of Khoroshye Ozero, Nezhinsky district, Chernihiv region, Ukrainian SSR. Educated at the Kharkiv State Institute of Culture (1969), later at the I.Kotlyarevsky Kharkiv State Institute of Arts (1974). In 1979, he graduated from the postgraduate program at the M. Rylsky Institute of Art History, Folklore and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Since 1984 – PhD of Art History, since 1997 – Doctor of Art History. The dissertation research of V.Rozhok is devoted to current issues of Ukrainian conducting and the multifaceted art of S. V.Turchak.
He held the positions of Deputy Director for Creative Affairs of the Taras Shevchenko National Opera of Ukraine (1981), Head of the Arts Department (1991), Head of the Culture Department in the Administration of the President of Ukraine (1994), Deputy Minister of Culture and Arts of Ukraine (1997). From 2004 to 2018 – Rector of the P.Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine.
V.Rozhok was the artistic director of the boys’ choir of the Kyiv Secondary Specialized Boarding School named after N.Lysenko, was the initiator and organizer of the National Competition of Young Conductors named after S.Turchak, and also headed the organizing committees of a number of competitions and festivals, including the S.Lifar International Ballet Competition.
