Russian performer (cellist), conductor, teacher and music and public figure. Professor (2021). Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (2018). Rector of St.Petersburg State Conservatory named after N.Rimsky-Korsakov (since 2015). Laureate of the international competition (1995, Trapani, Italy).
He was born on January 22, 1971 in Leningrad, RSFSR. He graduated from St.Petersburg Conservatory (cello class of A.Nikitina, 1995). By the time of graduation, A.Vasiliev was an artist of the Honored Art Group of Russia of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of St.Petersburg Philharmonic Society conducted by Yu.Temirkanov, and a teacher at St.Petersburg Conservatory, as well as the Secondary Special Music School at the Conservatory. In 2004–2005, he worked as concertmaster of the cello group of the Honored Art Group of Russia. As a soloist, he performed with the Honored Art Group of Russia, the Academic Symphony Orchestra of St.Petersburg Philharmonic Society, the Symphony Orchestra of the Academic Chapel of St. Petersburg, the Symphony Orchestra of St. Petersburg, the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of St. Petersburg. A.Vasiliev collaborated with many famous conductors (L.Korkhin, A.Chernushenko, R.Martynov, A.Paulavicius and etc.).
Since 2006, he was a head master of St.Petersburg College of Music named after N.Rimsky-Korsakov. In 2007–2009, he worked as a dean of the Orchestra Faculty of St. Petersburg State Conservatory. In 2006, he was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor, and since 2018, he has held the position of Professor.
In December 2016, he was elected, and in December 2021, he was re-elected as a rector of St. Petersburg State Conservatory.
In February 2008, A.Vasiliev became been a teacher of the orchestra class at Rimsky–Korsakov College, and since that moment the College Symphony Orchestra has repeatedly performed with unexceptional success in the Hall of the Academic Chapel of St. Petersburg, the Small Hall of St. Petersburg Philharmonic Society, the Small Hall of St. Petersburg Conservatory, the Concert Hall of Mariinsky theater.
A.Vasiliev holds master classes (cello) on a regular basis in Russia and overseas. He is a jury member of numerous music competitions:
