In September 2022, on the initiative of the leadership of the Belarusian State Academy of Music and the String Folk Instruments Department, a mandolin and guitar orchestra was organized. Such groups have a rich history and are popular all over the world.
The Orchestra of the Belarusian Academy of Music includes mandolins, mandolas, mandoloncello, guitars, double bass, piano (harpsichord), flute.
The repertoire includes original works for mandolin-guitar orchestra, transcriptions of works from the Baroque and Romantic eras, as well as music by contemporary Western European and Belarusian composers.
The famous musician, domrist, mandolinist, conductor, arranger, winner of the Francysk Skaryna medal Yaroslav Volosyuk was invited as the artistic director and conductor of the Orchestra.
During the first year of its existence, the Orchestra performed various programs in the halls of the Academy.
The interesting program and unique sound of the group was appreciated by the listeners.
Since September 2023, the artistic director and conductor is domrist and mandolinist,
laureate of republican and international competitions, graduate of the Academy in the class of Nikolai Maretsky,
soloist of the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society Dmitry Titov.
