The Student Choir of the Belarusian State Academy of Music took part for the first time as a concert unit in the First International Competition of Musical Higher Schools of the member-countries of CIS and Europe in 1995 (Kishinev, Moldova), where it obtained the Grand Prix.
In 1997 The Choir was awarded with the Grand Prix at the International Festival of Church Music in Gainovets (Poland) and with the Oscar at the 2nd International Competition of Choirs in Darmstadt (Germany). At this latter competition in Germany, the Choir obtained three Golden Diplomas in the nominations “Men’s Choir”, “Church Choir” and “Mixed Choir”, and also the Grand Prix at the 9th International Festival “Lord, the Mighty” (Mogilyov, 2001).
Recently, the Choir has performed a number of huge vocal-symphony works, such as “Magnificat” and “Johannes Passion” BWV 245 of I.S. Bach, “Mess C-Minor” of V.A. Mozart, the 9th Symphony of L. Beethoven, “Christmas Fairy-Tale” of G. Shutz, 13th Symphony of D. Shostakovich and others. The Students’ Choir performed more than once in Poland, Italy, Germany.
From its foundation the Artistic Director was People’s Artist of the USSR and Belarus, Professor V. Rovdo (1921–2007). Now the head of Choir is I. Bodyako.
