VALERY SHKARUPA

HONORARY PROFESSOR of the Belarusian State Academy of Music (2023)


Soviet and Russian pianist, music teacher. Professor (2023). Honored artist of the Russian Federation (2001). Honored art figure of the Russian Federation (2010). Honored Professor of Tajik National Conservatory.

Born on June 6, 1959 in Stalinabad (Dushanbe), Tajik SSR. In 1982 he graduated Moscow State Conservatory named after P.Tchaikovsky (class of Professor V.Natanson); in 1978 – Probation Assistantship (class of People’s Artist of the Russian Federation of Professor V.Kastelsky). In 2005 finished internship in Moscow State Conservatory, class of People’s Artist of USSR, Professor N.Petrov.

From 1987 till 1992 helded special class in Sverdlov Music School (college) named after P.Tchaikovsky. From 1984 V.Shkarupa worked in Ural State Conservatory named after M.Musorgsky. Since 1996 – Associate Professor, 2003 – Professor. Since 2011 till the present time is the Rector of the Conservatory.

V.Shkarupa holds active concert work. He held concerts in Russian cities and abroad: in Belarus, China, Germany, Italy, Finland, Tajikistan etc. His repertoire includes 17 solo programmes and 20 concerts with orchestra. He participated in more than 30 festivals including “Piano-forum” (Kazan, 1993), “Minsk spring” (1993), “In the memory of S.Chaliapin” (Helsinki, 1993), “Moscow autumn” (2002), International festivals in Dushanbe (2008-2011) etc.

V.Shkarupa regularly holds master-classes of Russian and foreign music educational institutions.

Among his students there are 19 laureates and 14 diploma holders of international competitions in Italy, Spain, France, Czech Republic, Portugal etc. Among his students there is laureate of international competitions A.Merzlov.

  • diploma holder of I International competition named after S.Rakhmaninov (Moscow, 1993);
  • Honorary title “Honored Artist of the Russian Federation”;
  • laureate of the prize of Sverdlovsk region Governor “For outstanding achievements in the field of literature and art”;
  • Honorary title “Honored art figure in the Russian Federation”;
  • medal of Yekaterinburg Metropolice of Russian Orthodox Church “130th anniversary of Yekaterinburg diocese”;
  • Honored Professor of Tajik National Conserbatory;
  • Honorary member of Tajik Union of Composers.
