Alina Besenson

Alina Besenson was born on July 11, 1971 in Volkovysk, Belarus.

In 1996 she became a member of the Belarusian Union of Composers and since 2009 she has been a member of the Union of Musicians of the Republic of Belarus. In 2010 she became a board member of the Belarusian Union of Composers. Since 2016 she has been teaching composition and musical-theoretical disciplines at the preparatory department of the Belarusian State Academy of Music. There are numerous articles about Alina Besenson’s work in newspapers and magazines, several recordings and interviews on Belarusian radio and television, as well as a documentary film.

Alina Besenson has been awarded a bunch of diplomas and certificates from the Department of Culture of the Minsk City Executive Committee and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus. She was awarded the badge of the Trade Unions Federation of the Republic of Belarus (2010), the badge of the Ministry of Culture “For contribution to the development of culture in the Republic of Belarus” (2017).  She is the laureate of state scholarships, winner of numerous international competitions.

Students at music schools, colleges, universities, soloists and teams of the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society and Belteleradiocompany all Alina Besenson’s works as an integral part of their reperoire. Her music is performed on the concert stages of Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Holland, China, Mexico, Tunisia. Her works are performed by the laureates of international, national and local competitions. Compositions of Alina Besenson are the subject of numerous studies for diploma and research works of students and teachers of higher and specialized secondary education institutions.

Alina Besenson’s music accompanies the documentary films “Near the Red Church” (2006), “Intersections in space and time” (2008) by Vladimir Orlov, and “Hidden under the maples shadow” (2014) by Aliona Sinitsa.

Alina Bezenson’s works cover various genres:

  • Symphonic poems;
  • Concertos;
  • Choral music (oratorios, poems, choral cycles, adaptations of Belarusian folk songs, etc.);
  • Vocal music (vocal cycles, Gregorian chants adaptations, canticles. etc.);
  • Chamber instrumental music (works for piano, domra, balalaika, cimbalom, violin, viola, cello, flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, French horn, trombone, tuba and ensembles);
  • Music for children (works for piano, domra, balalaika, cimbalom, violin, viola, cello, flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, French horn, trombone, tuba and ensembles; choral cycles, choral miniatures, etc.);
  • Published collections of works (adaptations of Belarusian folk songs, pieces for domra, balalaika, cimbalom, piano, vocal pieces, piano four-hand pieces, etc.).
