This year, Belarus, like the rest of the world, celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Victory over Nazi Germany. May 9 is not just a holiday. It is a memory of the heroic struggle, the great sacrifice of our people, who fought for a bright future, for freedom and peace on their land. 80 years have passed, but the echo of tragic events still resonates in our hearts, and the memory of the heroism of our ancestors lives and inspires new generations to preserve peace and unity.
The war mercilessly took away the most precious things: life, love, relatives, confidence in the future, childhood and happiness, even hope, but people always had music. It did not stop during the war, helped to unite people, instilled confidence in victory and supported in difficult times. During the Great Patriotic War, well-known compositions appeared: “The Holy War” (lyrics by V. Lebedev-Kumach, music by A. Alexandrov), “The Blue Handkerchief” (lyrics by Ya. Galitsky, music by E. Petersbursky), “Wait for Me” (lyrics by K. Simonov, music by M. Blanter), “Dark Night” (lyrics by V. Agatov, music by N. Bogoslovsky), “Katyusha” (lyrics by M. Isakovsky, music by M. Blanter) and many other songs. Their lines contain everything: the bitterness of retreats in the first months of the war, episodes of the soldiers’ army life, stories of military exploits, the pain of loss, love, and hope, which people of the war generation lived with, the joy of returning home with Victory, and the memory of those who were not lucky enough to see the peaceful dawn. The exciting power of these great songs will live on for many generations and will forever remain in the memory of the people.
The exhibition presents music collections and audiovisual publications, books, magazines, albums, about the history of the Great Patriotic War, about composers and poets who created frontline songs, about the unique stories of their birth and further fate.
The exhibition exposition is located in the elevator hall (6th floor) of the educational building No. 3 (P. Brovki St., 22) and the foyer of the second floor of the educational building No. 2 (Kommunisticheskaya St., 9) from April 23 to August 20, 2025.
