On April 2, 1996, the presidents of the two countries, Boris Yeltsin and Alexander Lukashenko, signed an agreement in Moscow “On the Formation of the Community of Russia and Belarus.” A year later, the agreement “On the Union of Belarus and Russia” was concluded. Since then, April 2 has been celebrated as the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia. This day has become a symbol of successful cooperation in all spheres of life in our society, including economics, education, culture and science. The holiday reminds us of the importance of joint efforts and support between the two states, symbolizes the brotherhood and close ties between the two countries, whose peoples have common roots and a thousand-year history.

Joint activities in the field of culture are the implementation of the policy of the Union State, aimed at preserving common historical values, developing creative activity and cultural cooperation between the peoples of Belarus and Russia. Joint festivals, meetings of artists, cultural exchanges and tours of creative groups, joint film production, exhibitions, protection of historical and cultural monuments and their restoration held within the framework of the Union State have become traditional.

The exhibition presents scientific and socio-political periodicals, articles from leading print media. The exposition is supplemented by copies of the author’s manuscripts of vocal works dedicated to the friendship of the two fraternal peoples by the Belarusian composer I. Luchenok; the song “Belarus, Russia – Together” to the words of I. Titovets and the ballad for soloist, male ensemble and piano “Belarusian-Russian Land” to the words of A. Lukyanov.
