On February 21, the whole world celebrates International Mother Language Day. This holiday symbolizes mutual understanding, dialogue, patience and good neighborliness, as well as historical memory. Language is the main and primary custodian of our intangible cultural heritage, faith and art.
There are currently over six thousand languages in the world. Half of them are in danger of disappearing. To preserve such languages, the UNESCO International Foundation has declared Mother Language Day.
For our people, the native language is Belarusian. This opinion was expressed by the majority of the population of Belarus during the last census. The language preserves the history, strength and beauty of the folk artistic word. From time immemorial, our ancestors created a solid foundation of statehood for us, passed it on from generation to generation to their descendants, so that in this big world we would have our own cultural code, our own characteristics and differences from other nations. “The future of our children depends on how much we protect the purity of our native language, what holidays and symbols we let into our home,” emphasized the President of our country A. Lukashenko.
Real support and preservation of our native language is the personal concern of each of us.
The library of Belarusian State Academy of Music presents to your attention a thematic exhibition “Native language, fabulous language!”
We congratulate everyone on the holiday! We wish you to always be proud of your roots and remember the enchanting notes of your native language!
The exhibition presents scientific, encyclopedic and reference publications, music-critical and scientific articles, sheet music publications, scientific journals, and illustrative material.
The exhibition will be on display in the foyer of the second floor of the Academic Building No. 2 (9 Kommunistichnaya St.) from February 6 to March 18, 2025.
