The thematic exhibition from the cycle “Anniversary celebrants of the Academy”:Vladimir Ivanovich Tarashkevich and Mikhail Aleksandrovich Zhilyuk

The Library of the Belarusian State Academy of Music presents a thematic exhibition from the cycle “Anniversary celebrants of the Academy”, dedicated to the anniversaries of the luminaries of Belarusian musical art and pedagogy: Vladimir Ivanovich Tarashkevich (07/05/1948) and Mikhail Aleksandrovich Zhilyuk (10/27/1948).

Vladimir Tarashkevich Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus (1994), Associate Professor of the Wind and Percussion Instruments Department (horn). He has the academic title of Associate Professor (2022).

In 1973 he graduated from the Gnesin State Musical and Pedagogical Institute. He worked as a member of the symphony orchestra of the creative association “National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of the Republic of Belarus”.

Vladimir Tarashkevich began his teaching career in 1992 at the Wind and Percussion Instruments Department of the Belarusian State Academy of Music. During his work, he trained more than 52 Higher education profesionals and 9 Master’s students. Among his students are laureates of numerous Republican and International competitions.

Currently, V.Tarashkevich actively conducts teaching, organizational and scientific activities at the Department. Under his guidance, students of the Department participate in various thematic concerts, creative projects and festivals. He is a co-author of publications of training programs for playing the wind instruments, the author of a collection of lectures for students of advanced training and retraining courses of the Belarusian State Academy of Music “French horn: history of the instrument and modern performing practice”, a collection of translations for horn and piano.

He has awards: Medal “For Labor Valor”, Badge of Honor of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus (“For significant personal contribution to the development of Belarusian culture”).

Mikhail Aleksandrovich Zhilyuk – Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus (1990), Honored Artist of Ukraine (2008), laureate of Republican and International vocal competitions, soloist of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of the Republic of Belarus (1976-2011), Associate Professor of the Singing Department of the Belarusian State Academy of Music.

In 1974, after graduating from the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory M.A.Zhilyuk became a soloist of the Sochi State Philharmonic Society. From 1976 to 2011 – soloist of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of the Republic of Belarus.

Bright artistic temperament, noble vocal manner, stage charm and consistent thoughtful work on the role allowed M.A.Zhiluk to create a number of multifaceted and memorable images on stage. The singer’s operatic repertoire includes more than 40 roles.

M.A.Zhilyuk toured in Austria, Spain, Hungary, Germany, India, the Netherlands, Norway, Thailand, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Sweden and many other countries of the world, representing opera and Belarusian culture.

M.A.Zhilyuk began his teaching career at the Belarusian State Conservatory in 1988. Among his many students are the soloist of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of the Republic of Belarus, People’s Artist of Belarus Vladimir Gromov, the soloist of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of the Republic of Belarus, People’s Artist of Belarus Alexander Krasnodubsky, soloist-vocalist of the I.Zhinovich National Academic Folk Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus Igor Zadorozhny.

Many bright, talented graduates and students of M.A.Zhilyuk’s class were winners at Republican and International vocal competitions and were repeatedly awarded the titles of laureates and diploma holders.

The exhibition displays publications representing the field of scientific, pedagogical and creative interests of M.A.Zhilyuk and V.I.Tarashkevich: encyclopedias, instructor’s manuals, curricula and training manuals, periodicals. The exhibition is complemented by music prints, photographic documents, and sound recordings of anniversary celebrants’ concert performances.

The library staff sincerely congratulates our esteemed heroes of the day and wishes them good health, optimism, inspiration and further success in scientific, creative and pedagogical activities.

The exhibition is located in the foyer of the Great Hall of the educational building No. 1 on 30 Internatsionalnaya Street (right side, horizontal shop windows) from October 3, 2023 to January 5, 2024
