The Library of Belarusian State Academy of Music presents a thematic exhibition “The Liberation of Belarus: History Shrouded in Glory”: to the 80th anniversary of Operation Bagration (June-August 1944) and the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.

The Great Patriotic War is one of the key events in modern Russian history. The memory of these events, the heroic exploits of our compatriots at the fronts and selfless work behind enemy lines, the sadness of the enormous losses suffered by Belarus during the war are one of the main components of the historical consciousness of the Belarusian people, contributing to the spiritual unification of our society.

In 2024, it will be 80 years since the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. This path began in 1943, when as a result of the Smolensk, Bryansk, Chernigovo-Pripyat, Lepel, Gomel-Rechitsa operations the first cities of Belarus were liberated.

The complete liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders is associated with the offensive operation of the Red Army, which went down in history under the code name “Bagration”. Having no analogues on a spatial scale, the Belarusian offensive operation is rightfully considered the greatest achievement of military art. It began on June 23, 1944. And already on July 3, Minsk, the capital of the BSSR, was liberated. During the second stage of the operation, in July 1944, Molodechno, Smorgon, Baranovichi, Novogrudok, Pinsk and Grodno were liberated.

The strongest group of the Wehrmacht was defeated. This became possible thanks to the courage, heroism, determination and self-sacrifice of hundreds of thousands of Soviet soldiers and Belarusian partisans, many of whom died the death of the brave on our land in the name of Victory over the enemy.

For the courage and heroism shown during Operation Bagration, more than 1,600 generals, officers and soldiers were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, more than 400 thousand soldiers and partisans were awarded orders and medals.

The exhibition presents encyclopedic, reference and scientific publications, articles from scientific collections, illustrative material, photographs, sheet music, and audio recordings.

The exhibition is located in the foyer of the Great Hall of educational building No. 1 (30 Internatsionalnaya St.) from May 3 to August 25, 2024.
