Since 2016, in the course of fulfilling the tasks of research and development of national, sectoral purposes, aimed at scientific and technical support for the activities of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, the following studies have been carried out at the Academy:
Research work in 2018-2022:
The object of the study was the guide for conducting an expeditionary survey of the regional folk song traditions of Belarus in modern conditions. The purpose of the work is to develop “Guidelines for conducting an expeditionary survey of regional folk song traditions of Belarus in modern conditions”. The methodological basis of the study was the source study, comparative, systemic, complex, cartographic methods. Relying on many years of experience in expeditionary and archival work, experience in studying music and text autographs (expeditionary field diaries, inventories, registers, transcriptions) determined the high degree of reliability of the results obtained.
The result of the study was:
The materials of the research work-2018 are reflected in the collective monograph “Expeditionary field research of regional ethnomusical traditions of Belarus in modern conditions” (Minsk, 2020).
The object of the study was the public association “Belarusian Union of Composers”, formed in the Republic of Belarus in the twentieth century, the subject of study is the functioning of the “Belarusian Union of Composers” in the period from 1932 to 2018. The purpose of the research was to identify the main stages in the history of the formation and development of the Belarusian Union of Composers in the totality of the creative and research activities of the Union members and to develop a publication model “Belarusian Union of Composers” (1932-2018): History. Documentation. Personalities”.
The methodology of the study was determined by the historical approach to the consideration of the structural model of the content of the public association “Belarusian Union of Composers”, which is expressed in the chronological reflection of its activities over the course of 85 years and the periodization of the historical process in accordance with significant objective events that make significant changes to the current process and divide it into certain promotion periods. Along with this, a structural-functional research method was also applied in the work, aimed at studying the internal structure of the Union as an integral system, the links of which in unity ensure its stability and efficiency of functioning over many decades. Universal methods of research were also essential, which served as a criterion for systematizing archival and documentary sources in the work.
As a result of the work, for the first time, a complex of archival and documentary sources of the Belarusian Union of Composers for the period from 1934 to 1993 and the pre-Union period from 1925 to 1932, located at the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art, was studied and described, all the documentation available in the Belarusian Union of Composers archive for the period from 1998 to 2018 years, for the first time the reports of I.Luchenok at the Congresses of Composers for the period from 1998 to 2016 were discovered and introduced into the scientific context, search work was carried out to collect materials on the activities of the Union of Composers in the last thirty years. The significance of the work lies in expanding the information field of the culture of the Republic of Belarus to promote national music in the world cultural field, promote Belarusian professional music, improve the educational cultural level, thanks to the ability of identifying historical and modern trends in the development of national and European musical art, self-identity awareness, understanding one’s place in the European cultural space.
The result was a prepared layout of the scientific publication “Belarusian Union of Composers (1932 – 2018): History. Documentation. Personalities”.
The object of the study was Belarusian music, mainly of the second half of the 20th – early 21st century. An extensive corpus of musical material was used for the analysis, covering the main periods of the history of polyphony in European musical culture. Particular attention was paid to the Belarusian folk-song art. The issues of the existence of folklore in the music of neighboring countries were also touched upon.
The purpose of the study is to develop a structural model of content, a system of criteria for selecting musical material, the principles of its scientific and methodological description, and to prepare a manuscript for the scientific publication “Polyphony in Belarusian music of the 20th – early 21st century”.
For a comprehensive coverage of issues related to the characteristics of polyphony in Belarusian music, the disclosure of the unity of folk song and professional principles and stylistic models of European harmonized music, a typological method was chosen as a research method. This method, based on the concept of type as a specific model of a historically developing phenomenon and as a unit of dismemberment according to the essential features of the phenomenon under study, made it possible to draw up a complete picture of the formation, development and reconstruction in the work of Belarusian composers of the postmodern era of the structural, stylistic and genre incarnations of polyphonic harmonized music that has developed in the national musical tradition.
The study contains a number of new conceptual and terminological constructions for Belarusian musicology, including “song polyphony”, “heterophony as a determinant of counterpoint”, etc.
As a result, for the first time, the selection and systematization of material on the subject of a research area related to the study of the problems of polyphony in Belarusian music was made in the work. Unlike a number of similar publications – the Russian “Polyphony in Russian Music of the 20th Century”, author I.Kuznetsov (M., 2012), and the Ukrainian “Polyphony in Ukrainian Music”, author I.Pyaskovsky (K., 2012), – this publication project presented the materials of composer’s creativity from the point of view of the timbre-textural criterion. This made it possible to bring to the fore a number of new research topics, including the problem of song harmonized music, due to the interaction of various stylistic factors of musical and historical practice.
In accordance with the above criterion, on the example of Belarusian music of the 20th century, ideas about the following types of harmonized music as a typologically branched phenomenon are formulated: vocal-choral polyphony, instrumental polyphony, orchestral polyphony.
In connection with the problems of the national musical style, the main one in the work, a new paradigm for Belarusian musical science has arisen – “monody – polyphony” (as opposed to the traditional “homophony – polyphony”), which allows you to fundamentally update approaches to musical upbringing and education.
The result of the study was the prepared manuscript of the scientific publication “Polyphony in Belarusian Music of the 20th – Early 21st Century”.
“Develop scientific and methodological approaches to the analysis of the activities of secondary specialized education institutions in the field of culture in the Republic of Belarus. To create recommendations for determining the effectiveness of the activities of secondary specialized education institutions in the field of culture” (supervisor – PhD in Art History, Associate Professor Onoshko I.Yu., 2021, SR No. – 20212376).
The object of the study was the activities of secondary specialized education institutions in the field of culture in the Republic of Belarus.
The purpose of the work is to prepare recommendations for determining the effectiveness of the activities of secondary specialized education institutions in the field of culture.
The following methodological approaches and methods were identified as the main ones:
The system method as a reflection of the place and significance of secondary specialized education institutions in the field of culture.
Cultural approach, which necessitates the consideration of secondary specialized education institutions as a subsystem of artistic culture.
The principle of historicism as the most important condition for revealing the essence of integrity, continuity, succession of the functioning of secondary specialized education institutions in the field of culture.
The principle of artistic comparative studies, the implementation of which involves a comparative analysis of the effectiveness of the activities of secondary specialized education institutions in the field of culture in the CIS countries (Russian Federation, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Belarus).
In the work, for the first time, a systematic and comprehensive study of the effectiveness of the activities of secondary specialized education institutions in the field of culture in the Republic of Belarus was carried out. This made it possible to comprehend the process of classifying a secondary specialized education institution in the field of culture as effective in terms of quality and types of activities.
As a result, methodological recommendations “Recommendations for determining the effectiveness of the activities of secondary specialized education institutions in the field of culture” were prepared. The recommendations include both the formation of general approaches to assessing the effectiveness of the activities of secondary specialized education institutions in the field of culture, and the criteria for the effectiveness of the activities of the secondary specialized education institutions in the field of culture, taking into account functional specifics, the results of educational, teaching and guiding and creative activities.
The object of the study was the 90-year history of the Belarusian State Conservatory – the Academy of Music on the basis of official documents stored in the state archives of Belarus. The purpose of the study is to create a manuscript of the scientific publication “Belarusian State Conservatory – Academy of Music: History in Documents (1932-2020)”. The task was timed to coincide with the 90th anniversary of the Belarusian State Academy of Music.
The methodology of the undertaken study was based on a multi-vector approach to archival materials, as well as to facts and events recorded in various publications on the history of the Belarusian State Conservatory – the Academy of Music. The following methods were used as working methods: description, characterization and evaluation of documents, their comparative analysis, classification and systematization, generalization of the results of studying the accumulated material. When presenting and structuring the text of the manuscript, the methods of literary and stylistic text processing and editing were used.
A systematic approach was chosen as the dominant one in the development of this scientific project. From these positions, the entire work of the Belarusian State Conservatory – the Academy of Music was considered as an integral system in the unity of various components: educational and pedagogical, scientific, methodological, creative, concert and performing, cultural and educational, administrative and organizational activities both in the Republican and in the International scales. Not all components of this system are equal. The ratios of different aspects of the activity of the Academy are mobile and tend to change and transform. The concept of the developed scientific publication “Belarusian State Conservatory – Academy of Music: History in Documents (1932-2020)” was corrected in the process of work.
As a result of the carried out research activities:
This scientific task, dedicated to comprehending and systematizing knowledge on the history of Belarusian academic music of the 20th – 21st centuries, and more broadly – the national musical culture, closes the formed niche in the consideration and study of the history of the national composer school formation of an extremely complex and largely contradictory period.
The purpose of the research was to create a manuscript of a scientific publication dedicated to the history of Russian music of the academic tradition of the 20th – early 21st centuries.
As a result of the work, a manuscript of a scientific publication was created, revealing the history of the development of Belarusian music over a long historical period – “The History of Belarusian Music of the 20th – Early 21st Centuries”. This project was implemented for the first time in Belarusian musicology. The results of the research work significantly supplemented and introduced new information into the course “Belarusian Music History” based on the analysis of the work of Belarusian composers of the specified period. A large number of musical works were first introduced into scholarly discourse.
