Chamber orchestra of Belarusian State Academy of Music was founded in 1969. The name of the orchestra “Gradus ad Parnassum” highlights the desire to achieve ideal quality. Each new programme, each concert in life of this young creative formation is unique step to professional artistic mastery, art ideal. Orchestra safes high professional and performing level by constant update with new musicians that enter the academy.
The first head of the orchestra was Professor V.Zelenin, in 1990s the orchestra was headed by V.Soroko, and since 1999 it was leaded by talented representative of Belarusian conducting school, the head of the Orchestral Conducting Department, Associate Professor P.Vandilovsky. From 2003 till 2009 he was also the main conductor and creative supervisor of State Chamber Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus.
Chamber orchestra of the academy is educational formation but still it holds constant concert activity by performing in different regions in Belarus and abroad, by participating in many musical festivals. This formation is often invited to festive and governmental events, on its basis were held conducting master-classes in Italy. Orchestra performed in the greatest halls in Germany, Spain, Finland, Holland, Belgium with success.
The wide concert repertoire of the formation includes composition of different epochs , schools and directions – from baroque to avant-garde. Orchestra repertoire includes such complex compositions as “Serenade for sting orchestra” by P.Tchaikovsky, “Serenade” by A.Dvorzhak, Symphony № 2 by A.Onegger, Six Brandenburg concerts by I.Bach, suite “Music on water” and oratory “Messiah” by G.Hendel, “Große Messe” by W.Mozart etc. Orchestra performance is characterized by pursuit to stylistic accuracy, dynamic expressiveness, technical perfection. Orchestra has its own fund recordings in Belarusian Television and Radio Company, recorded CD with compositions of I.Bach, F.Hofmaister, W.Mozart, S.Rakhmaninov etc.
From 2020 till 2022 the orchestra was headed by young conductor V.Larin. Today the head of the orchestra is N.Teran.
