In 1980-84, 1989-2003, Alexander Anisimov was the chief conductor of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of the Republic of Belarus. As a musical director, he carried out a number of significant productions, including “Rigoletto” by G. Verdi, “The Nutcracker” by P. Tchaikovsky, “Ivan Susanin” by M. Glinka, “Carmen” by J. Bizet, “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk” by D. Shostakovich, “Maddalena” by S. Prokofiev (the first production in the USSR), national performances “Kurgan” by E. Glebov, “New Land” by Y. Semenyako, “The Master and Margarita” by E. Glebov, etc.

Over the years, A. Anisimov was the chief conductor of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater (carried out the first production of S. Prokofiev’s “Fiery Angel” in the USSR, 1984), the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra (Republic of Korea), the Rostov State Musical Theater , Samara Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. From 2002 to the present, he has been the chief conductor of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus. In 2018, A. Anisimov returns to the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of the Republic of Belarus as a guest conductor.

As a guest conductor, A. Anisimov performed in opera houses and concert halls in many cities of the former Soviet Union, including the Bolshoi Theater of Russia and the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg. Maestro A. Anisimov’s world tours include performances on such stages as the Houston Grand Opera, San Francisco Opera, Teatro Colon (Argentina), State Opera of South Australia, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, State Opera of Hannover and Hamburg , Berlin State Opera, Paris National Opera, Liceu Theater (Barcelona), Puccini Festival in Klagenfurt (Austria).

Collaborates with the Dutch Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestras of St. Petersburg, Warsaw, Monte Carlo and Rotterdam, the Lithuanian and Hungarian National Symphony Orchestras, the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Nuremberg Philharmonic, the Australian Youth Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic of London orchestra. After the concert in Rome, the Santa Cecilia Academy Orchestra presented A. Anisimov with Leonard Bernstein’s baton.

  1. Anisimov constantly works with the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, with which he staged Wagner’s cycle “The Ring of the Nibelungs”. He also works fruitfully with the Irish Opera and the Wexford Festival, and is President of the Wagner Society of Ireland. Alexander Anisimov was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of Music (Honorus Causa) by the National University of Ireland for his outstanding contribution to the musical life of the country.

In July 2014, Alexander Anisimov was awarded the national French Order of Merit of the highest degree. Winner of the VI Republican Theater Arts Competition “National Theater Award” in 2021 in the category “Best Conductor’s Work in a Musical Play” (the play “Peer Gynt”).
