Social protection of the youth
Students’ social protection is a set of measures established by the state in order to ensure the students’ training, aimed at providing them with material support, state social benefits, rights and guarantees provided for by the Education Code of the Republic of Belarus and other legislative acts.
The main principles of students’ social protection are the guarantee on the part of the state of education, material support, state social benefits, rights and guarantees, as well as targeting.
Forms of social protection:
Use of textbooks and teaching aids – students mastering the content of educational programs of Higher education are provided with textbooks and teaching aids by education institutions free of charge for the training period.
Creation of the necessary conditions for catering for students – in the educational buildings and the residence hall there are buffets / a canteen that provide hot meals.
Health protection – arrangement of conditions for health-saving education, physical culture and sports, organization of health improvement (trade union committee of students), preventive measures aimed at promoting and developing healthy lifestyle skills, preventing antisocial and illegal behavior (Department for Educational Work with Youth).
Scholarships – social support from the state for successful students:
Educational scholarship – a monthly cash payment, which is a measure of social support from the state for successful students (students, Master’s Degree students, postgraduate students) in full-time education and stimulates mastery achievement in the content of educational programs by students;
Social scholarship – assigned to students who do not receive an educational scholarship, if they belong to socially unprotected categories of the population, including:
Persons from among orphans and children left without parental care, as well as persons who lost the last of their parents during the period of study;
Students with disabilities;
Persons who have benefits in accordance with articles 18-23 of the Law of the Republic of Belarus dated January 6, 2009 “On social protection of citizens affected by the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, other radiation accidents”;
Pregnant students;
Students with children under the age of eighteen;
Students in difficult financial situations.
The scholarship of the President of the Republic of Belarus is awarded to a student of a state Higher education institution for excellent academic performance throughout the study at a Higher education institution, special achievements in research and creative activities and exemplary behavior, and is also awarded on a competitive basis to a postgraduate student of a state education institution.
Provision of accommodation at a residence hall – students are provided with accommodation at a residence hall at the address: Minsk, 61 Kiselyov Street for the period of study.
Granting leave with the right to continue education on the same terms:
academic leave is granted to a student for medical reasons, in connection with a call to inactive military duty or for other valid reasons, lasting no more than 1 year;
three years’ parental leave is granted to the mother of the child at her request after a break in studies caused by childbirth. Three years’ parental leave instead of the mother of the child is granted to the father of the child studying at an education institution.
leave for military service is granted for the entire period of its passage.
Provision of financial assistance to students – on the basis of the Regulation “On the provision of financial assistance to students” dated July, 2013 No. 62/28 (link to the document)
Support for graduates – the provision of the entry-level position after graduation, as well as guarantees and benefits in connection with the placement.
