thematic exhibition “German Composer, Pianist and Conductor Ludwig van Beethoven”: on the 255th anniversary of his birth (1770–1827)

The library of Belarusian State Academy of Music presents a thematic exhibition “German Composer, Pianist and Conductor Ludwig van Beethoven”: on the 255th anniversary of his birth (1770–1827).

  1. Beethoven was an outstanding composer of the Viennese classical school, a pianist, conductor, teacher. His music, with its unique versatility and recognizability, lyrical expressiveness and dramatic power, inspires people and evokes deep emotions, confirming its timeless relevance.

The composer’s life was not easy. Difficult family circumstances, growing deafness, a lack of understanding of his work by his contemporaries left its mark on him, but he overcame all challenges with flying colors. He wrote over 240 works, including nine completed symphonies, five piano concertos, 18 string quartets. Most of Beethoven’s works are included in the educational and concert repertoires of musicians. The famous “Moonlight Sonata” and the melody “An die Freude” from the fourth movement of Symphony No. 9 became schlager, marking the beginning of many listeners’ immersion in the world of classical music.

The exhibition features sheet music editions of Beethoven’s famous piano works, symphonic scores, vocal works, as well as monographs, illustrated albums, scholarly studies, articles, essays, lectures on the composer’s career and life. The exhibition is complemented by compact discs of Beethoven’s works.

The exhibition will be on display in the elevator lobby (6th floor) of Academic Building No. 3 (22 Petrusya Brovka St.) from December 20, 2025, to January 26, 2026.
