Library of Belarusian State Academy of Music presents thematic exhibition “Carnival of New Year melodies”.
When winter comes we are in the special mood; we are anticipating holidays – New Year and Christmas. It is time of family traditions, meeting friends, bright holiday evenings. One of the most important components of this time is music, which creates special atmosphere and fulfill us with joy and energy, inspires on new wins and achievements. New Year compositions are exclusively positive and bring us only pleasant emotions. Composers from all over the world and times turned to Christmas theme, creating amusing works: “Christmas oratorio” by I.Bach, scene “Prophecy of the birth of Christ” from oratorio “Messiah” by G.Handel, “Christmas concerto grosso” by A.Corelli, works of P.Tchaikovsky “Nutcracker”, “Cherevichki”, “Christmas (December)” from “The Seasons” cycle, opera of N.Rimski-Korsakov “The Night before Christmas, opera “Christmas tree” by V.Rebikov, “Santa Clause” by R.Schumann, “Snow Queen” by S.Prokofiev, “Christmas tree” by F.List etc.
Christmas music is not only classical compositions, but also unique modern compositions, made specially for holyday. Fresh musical ideas and modern arrangements give Christmas and New Year a special charm and make the holidays even more bright and beautiful. Among Belarusian composers those who turned to Christmas theme are: E.Atrashkevich, V.Voitik, G.Gorelova, A.Bezenson, S.Bugasov, A.Litvinovski, N.Churkin, L.Shleg, E.Zaritsky, E.Poplavsky, E.Hanok etc.
Printed music and audio recordings of holyday compositions of Russian, Belarusian and foreign composers are presented at the exhibition. Exposition is located in education building №1 (International Street, 30) in classroom №140. From December 12, 2023 till January 15, 2024.
