Honorary Professor of Belarusian State Academy of Music


Belarusian musicologist, teacher, lecturer. PhD of Art History (1981). Professor (1982). Honored Worker of Higher School of the BSSR (1976). Member of the Belarusian Union of Theatre Workers (1978), Belarusian Union of Musical Workers (1961), Belarusian Union of Composers (1959).

Born March 21, 1926 in Nizhny Novgorod, RSFSR. Graduated from the Gnessin State Music and Pedagogical Institute (1953) in the class of B.Levik, and completed her postgraduate studies there under his supervision (1957). She worked at Belarusian State Conservatory named after A.Lunacharsky (Belarusian State Academy of Music) since 1957. In 1957–1968, she taught at the Department of Musicology the following courses: Introduction to the Specialty, Solfeggio, Harmony, Analysis of Musical Works, Methods of Teaching Musical-Theoretical Disciplines and Musical Literature. She taught a special class and pedagogical practice for musicologists. In 1963–1983, she was vice-rector for research and educational work, in 1983–1986 – for research and creative work, simultaneously in 1968–1969 she served as acting head of the Department of Music Theory, and in 1969–1981 she was head of the Department of Music Theory. Since 1986 – professor of the Department of Music Pedagogy, History and Theory of Performing Arts.

For many years of work in Belarusian State Conservatory (Belarusian State Academy of Music) K.Stepantsevich was scientific supervisor for diplomas, PhD and graduate theses. She is a member of All-Union organization “Znanie” (1980-1985). Member of Art Council of the Ministry of Culture of BSSR (1980-1985). Deputy of city council (1965-1971).

 

She was an opponent and chairperson of the expert commission for the defense of PhD dissertations, the author of reviews of various publications, scientific articles. The author of annotations to the works of Belarusian composers, reports at international and national conferences, symposiums, plenary sessions, congresses of the Union of Composers (Germany, Switzerland, Vilnius, Riga, Chisinau, Moscow, Gorky (Nizhny Novgorod), Minsk, Mogilev, Brest), over 30 radio and television programs on Belarusian music and music education; lecturer at the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society, the Znanie Society.

The author of a large number of articles in scientific collections, magazines, newspapers “Soviet Belarus”, “Soviet Musician”, “Music Life”, “Zvyazda”, “LiM”, “Nastaunitskaya Gazeta”, “Pioneer of Belarus”, “Communist of Belarus”, “Culture”.

Students. Among her students are the PhDs of art history O. Morozova, T. Sernova, S. Gerasimovich, L. Orlova, S. Baeva, K. Yaskov. Former graduates who defended PhD dissertations after graduating from Belarusian State Conservatory: Yu. Zlatkovsky, N. Stepanskaya..
